476-482 AR
Established in 476 AR by Isfar the Bold, who emerged suddenly from the Hinterland at the head of a plundering horde of nomad horsemen, deracinated adventurers and spectral warriors summoned from beyond the veil by forbidden magic, the Khanate did not survive its founder.
Foiled in his initial bid to overrun the Commonwealth, Isfar was left in control of a very considerable realm. However, he was consumed by an ever increasing fascination with dark magic - a fascination that would later be attributed to the side effects of the spell known forever after as The Summoning of Isfar. Abandoning all other pursuits in favor of his quest for dark knowledge, Isfar neglected the administration of his Khanate. He failed to consolidate his power or produce an heir. His lieutenants were left to rule their satrapies as they saw fit, each eyeing the other with greed and fear.
In due course Isfar's experiments with dark magic proved his bane. Civil war broke out almost at once, but none of the would-be successors were able to establish themselves in his stead. The Khanate dissolved into anarchy. Duke Baltas was the only one of Isfar's followers to leave any kind of legacy. His son, Baltas II, after playing a role in the Senatorial War, would go on to found the Duchy (later Kingdom), of Eluurra.
